April 6, 2009 – Nogales, AZ - On behalf of the Greater Nogales Santa Cruz County Port Authority (the Port Authority) I write to express our gratitude and appreciation for all your support in helping to secure the commitment from the Obama Administration to fund the construction phase of the Nogales West (Mariposa) Reconfiguration Project.

Your work in support of this project first as Governor of the State of Arizona and now as the Secretary of Homeland Security has played a critical role in advancing this project. Although there are many stakeholders that played a significant role in advancing this project and ensuring that decision makers gave this project the attention and priority it deserved, you never gave up on it. more

Letter of support for Mendez Nomination

April 3, 2009 – Nogales, AZ - On behalf of the Greater Nogales Santa Cruz County (the Port Authority) I write to express our strong support for consideration you are giving to the nomination of Victor Mendez to be the next Administrator of the Federal Highways Administration.

We have had the pleasure of working with Victor on a variety of issues and we have found him to be not just the very definition of a professional but one of the most knowledgeable on transportation solutions. Note that we stress his knowledge of “solutions” because on many issues, including many complex binational transportation issues that impact our border community, Victor was always guiding the discussion towards solutions and not just focusing on the problem. Victor’s approach and as Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), resulted in one of the most modern transportation systems available for Arizona. more

At issue is the security and safety of a 13 kilometer corridor that handles in excess of 1,600 cargo trucks per day and represent over $22 billion of trade between the United States and Mexico and processes over 3 million people each year. As you can see from the attached letter, every single industry and government stakeholder on this critical issue has signed on the letter. more

Letter of support congratulating Janet Napolitano on appointment

On behalf of the Greater Nogales and Santa Cruz County Port Authority (the Port Authority) it is with great pleasure that I write to congratulate you on being selected by President-Elect Barrack Obama as his designee for Secretary of Homeland Security.

Your efforts on behalf of the border region and Arizona have been an example of reality-based decision making. Your hands on experience as a Governor of a border state offers you a different perspective than those who seek to just decide what is best for the border without knowing the border. more
